As part of its ongoing commitment to reconciliation and building meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, ARA marked National Reconciliation Week 2026 with a powerful live cultural experience – a traditional Aboriginal song and dance Corroboree performed in support of its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
The performance gave staff and guests a rare and moving opportunity to experience the depth and diversity of the world’s oldest living culture. Through traditional song, dance, storytelling, and cultural interpretation, participants gained genuine insight into Aboriginal traditions, values, and the profound connection to Country that sits at the heart of First Nations identity.
The event opened with a cultural introduction that set the tone for the afternoon – acknowledging Aboriginal history, culture, and contributions, and reflecting on what reconciliation means in practice. Performers then brought culture vividly to life through a dynamic display of traditional dance, live music, and song, sharing stories carried across generations.
Each dance told its own story, reflecting the intricate relationships between people, land, animals, and the natural world. Together, the performances illustrated how storytelling remains central to Aboriginal culture – preserving knowledge, strengthening identity, and keeping tradition alive.
The experience created more than a performance. It opened a genuine space for learning, reflection, and human connection. Staff were encouraged to engage directly with performers, ask questions, and develop a deeper appreciation for the cultural significance behind each song, movement, and tradition being shared.
The Corroboree aligned directly with ARA’s RAP objectives – promoting cultural awareness, fostering respectful relationships, and creating authentic opportunities for engagement with First Nations culture. It served as a powerful reminder that reconciliation is not a single moment but an ongoing journey, built on respect, curiosity, and a willingness to listen.
Through experiences like this, ARA continues to demonstrate what genuine commitment to reconciliation looks like – celebrating and honouring Australia’s First Peoples while building a more inclusive and culturally aware workplace for everyone.
