4th August 2025
National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day is a cherished annual celebration held on 4th August, honouring the strength, culture and future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children across Australia.
First observed in 1988, Children’s Day is coordinated by the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) and is a moment for all Australians – schools, families and communities – to come together and celebrate the rich cultures and identities of First Nations children. The day shines a light on their rights, their resilience, and the importance of connection to Country, family, language and culture in supporting healthy, thriving young lives.
Why Children’s Day Matters
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, cultural identity is deeply linked to wellbeing. Children’s Day is an opportunity for schools and early learning centres to affirm that identity – to show First Nations students that their culture is valued, visible and celebrated in the classroom and beyond.
It is also a powerful moment for non-Indigenous children to learn about the world’s oldest living cultures in ways that are respectful, engaging and meaningful.
How to Celebrate Children’s Day at Your School
Aboriginal Incursions offers a range of immersive, curriculum-aligned workshops that are perfectly suited to marking Children’s Day in a meaningful way. Our First Nations facilitators bring authentic cultural experiences directly to your school, including:
- Storytelling and Dreaming workshops
- Aboriginal art on canvas or boomerang painting
- Interactive performances featuring music, dance and language
Whether you’re an early learning centre or a primary school, we can tailor a program that celebrates and educates in equal measure.
